Robin Hood Gardens

Shocking decision again not to list the estate.
English Heritage are applying for another Certificate of Immunity and just have not listened to reason.
Jim Fitzpatrick wants it ripped down ASAP so get round there swiftly if you want to appreciate one of the best examples of Brutalism designed by some of our countries finest architects.

It's ugly, it's always been ugly, it will be ugly until they rip it down. The sooner they rip it down, the better.

Absolute bollocks.
Brilliant designed, aesthetically pleasing and an important historical building.

Just looked on google images and it's a hideous building.
English heritage? You must be joking.

It's only historical in the sense that it existed before yesterday.

This is Manor either on a wind up, or being serious after an unbroken run of 500 posts that were wind ups.

The whole area within the triangle of Stratford, Whitechapel and Canary Wharf is up for re-development and transformation. Why should this hideous, sink estate escape the bulldozers?

Looks like a prison. Had a mate who spent a couple of grand putting proper wood flooring down in his flat there the silly cunt.

Because it is not a hideous sink estate.
The campaign to save it was supported by many notable architects.
We should be protecting and appreciating Brutalism not purging it from our country.

The Smithsons are two of our finest architects.
Not sure why that's funny.

Seen loads of behind the scenes stuff there as my mate is the consultant for the lifts.
Tower Hamlets has some great ones.

Robin Hood Gardens

There is hardly anything else in the country (save Park Hill in Sheffield) which looks like this.
It's unique and special.
Seems to me you lot would prefer monotonous two up two down suburban boredom.

I worked in fore street for years so see the barbican every day and was always impressed by it. although built in a similar style, I think RHG is ropey in comparison

Robin Hood Gardens might well be edgy and vibrant compared to many two up two down suburban dwellings however most people don't want to live with piss and shit on the staircase.
